Fourth Kitchen Remodel Update – Granite Countertop Installation

Today is a sad day! We had to disconnect my gas range because the countertop installers were coming the next day. I think I will survive two days without it but I don’t want to, I sure do love that range!

We crammed it in with everything else but in front of our basement door, we can still squeeze through though. I don’t know how they will get that countertop in.

I’m not surprised, they couldn’t get it in through the kitchen door! So we had to move the dishwasher, microwave and everything else that was stored on the foyer floor so they could come in the front door instead. They were very careful not to scratch my new flooring by putting down some protective blankets.

They brought the granite in on a cart with wheels, that made it easy!

They struggled to make the turn and had to move a few things.

They made it to the island, BUT, it has to go over the island and onto the cabinets on the right!

They man handled this heavy rock countertop and lifted it over the island.

Whew they made it like they did this everyday. Now at least the weight is on the cabinet, but how will they lay it gently on the cabinet?

Just like the professionals they are!

Now it is in place! They used silicone to seal the granite to the cabinets.

They placed the sink into the opening getting ready to install it.

We picked out an under mount sink.

One worked on the sink installation and the other worked on the seam.

He used silicone to seal the sink to the counter so water won’t get into the cabinets.

The sink clips are installed from under the sink to hold it in place.

What a nice job! Next up the hole for the faucet.

They worked together drilling the hole and sucking up the dust with the shop vac.

The hole is done.

Now for the seam, I wasn’t expecting much and was disappointed we had to have a seam, but our counter was too long to avoid a seam. See the seam in the middle of the picture?

I forgot to ask what this process did but this is how they connected the seam.

Unbelievable, you can’t even see the seam! What a fantastic job, I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat!

We couldn’t be happier! Next up is the new faucet, connecting the water and drain so we can live a more normal life.

Due to the damaged cabinet on the island, they will have to come back to install the granite countertop on it. The new replacement cabinets are due to arrive on July 8th. Things are looking up!
