Second New Kitchen Remodel Update

All I thought about when the cabinets were delivered was where in the world is all this stuff going to go in my small kitchen? There is still a huge cabinet in the garage plus all the appliances.

The cabinets are all custom made with so many fun features that I have never had before. Our old kitchen was put in when the house was built in the 70’s.

Everything has gone as planned until the dreaded cabinet inspection where we had to open every one of those boxes and make sure nothing was damaged within 5 days and with the contractor.

We found seven cabinets that were deeply scratched, dinged and one cabinet cut wrong so the wooden pegs wouldn’t insert all the way in leaving a gap and they pulled right out. I am old enough to remember the quality control companies used to have, I wish we could bring back those days!

I love the cabinets, they are dovetail and very well made. The issues were mostly from shipping and cosmetic, however, when you pay what we did for custom cabinets, I won’t accept the dings and deep scratches. We paid for putty and small touch up paint for the future dings we do, but why should I use it on brand new cabinets?

The next step was to email pictures with SKU information and hope they send replacements which will take another 4-6 weeks. I did that and of course they needed a more detailed explanation than just the pictures of every scratch and gouge I already sent. So I spent another hour emailing what they wanted and I am still waiting to hear back from them.

We have the counter top company coming to measure for the template soon with an install date of June 27th. The one good thing about the damaged cabinets is that only one of the bottom cabinets was damaged and it is in the island. Our contractor will install all of the lower cabinets so the template countertop measure can go forward and we can get back in business with a sink, faucet, dishwasher and stove. The island countertop can be installed at a later date when the cabinet is replaced.

I don’t know how people build new houses after realizing all there is to do with only a kitchen!

Stay tuned for the Third New Kitchen Remodel Update.
